Groundwater Quality:
Ground water is a dynamic resource,which is replenishes periodically and the water quality surveillance program in the State are conducted by SWID based on sustainable monitoring and surveilliance system of ground and surface water every year.To have a watch on the behavior of ground water,there is a system of periodical monitoring of ground water quality in two schedule periods (in the month of April and November every year.On the basis of such data,the periodical reports were complied and circulated to aware the departmental agencies and masses as a whole.A total of 13 numbered (one Central Chemical & Hydrological Laboratory,two Divisional Chemical & Hydrological Laboratories each at Burdwan and Malda and ten number of Regional Chemical & Hydrological Laboratories each at Diamond Harbour,Barasat,Krishnanagar,Paschim Medinipur,Purulia,Suri,Berhampore,Raigunj, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri) of well managed laboratories were already in operation in the State to test ground and surface water quality as well as sources in the Arsenic,Fluoride,Salinity and other hot spot areas throughout the stste.Analysis of surface water and waste water are also in operation.In order to extend the monitoring facility of water testing in the entire state.Central Chemical and Hydrological Laboratory has been up graded in to a state of the Art Laboratory with the financial support of World Bank. All other laboratories are well equipped with the requisite laboratory equipments,glass apparatus,computers etc and are under the process of up gradation.
